Dr Peter Ng Eng Pin is a urologist consultant for one of Malaysia’s premier private medical centers -- Sime Darby Medical Center.

I know a bit about urology. I used to own a urology business in Asia and Latin America, so I have a good sense of urologists and the conditions they treat. So when I met Dr Ng, I felt a little more comfortable talking to him because I knew what I was talking about (sort of).

Dr Ng trained in Australia and Scotland and has over 15 years clinical experience. Dr Ng has three primary areas of focus -- benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), kidney stones and incontinence.

We talked at length about treating BPH, or enlarged prostate, because this is a condition that affects one out of every two men over the age of 60. It's a nagging condition that causes men no end of aggravation, because it makes you feel like you always have to go to the bathroom. Normally it can be controlled by medication, but if the prostate gets too big then surgical intervention is required.

For decades, the surgical treatment of choice for enlarged prostate treatment has been a procedure called TURP (resection of the prostate), but this carries risks of impotency and bleeding. Many men are now opting for a less invasive procedure, using lasers to either cut or vaporize the tissue.

Dr Ng recommends Thulium Laser to treat men suffering from enlarged prostate. He has performed over 150 cases using Thulium, which he says is better, faster and cheaper than Green Light Laser, also know as PVP, which vaporizes the tissue. Dr Ng says that Thulium laser also allows him to take a sample of the prostate to see if it is cancerous, which PVP cannot.

In addition to his specialization in treating BPH, Dr Ng is also the President of the Continence Foundation in Malaysia and has a very active interest in andrology and the study of male aging.

We could have talked for hours, but he had patients to attend to and I knew enough to know this is a doctor I would use myself.
