Vascular surgery is an area of surgery that has evolved from general and cardiac surgery and focuses on treating diseases and conditions of the vascular system, or arteries and veins. Vascular surgeons typically do not treat conditions of the heart and brain, which are the domains of cardiac surgeons and neurosurgeons respectively.

Common diseases or conditions treated by vascular surgeons include abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid stenosis, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), peripheral vascular disease, acute limb ischaemia and aortic dissection.

Common procedures performed by vascular surgeons include: AAA repair, carotid stenting, angioplasty, sclerotherapy, vein stripping, thrombectomy.
