Radiologists

Radiology is the medical specialty concerned with using diagnostic imaging technology to detect, diagnose and treat diseases.

Doctors that specialize in this field of medicine are known as radiologists. Radiologists use sophisticated imaging technology like ultrasound, X-rays, computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to identify and interpret the source and type of disease. Increasingly, radiologists are becoming more active in the treatment of disease using minimally invasive techniques and procedures including varicose vein treatment (sclerotherapy), uterine fibroid embolization (removing fibroids from the uterus), brachytherapy (implanting radioactive seeds to treat tumors), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery.

Radiologists may sub specialize in interventional radiology, pediatric radiology and neuroradiology.
