Hematologists

Hematology is a subspecialty of internal medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the blood and blood producing organs.

Doctors who specialize in this field of medicine are called hematologists. Hematologists focus on treating conditions which involve the blood, including genetic blood disorders, like thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and hemophilia; cancer of the blood, like leukemia; and infectious diseases, like hepatitis.

Hematologists perform bone marrow transplants, stem cell transplants and blood transfusions.
