Pacemaker Implantation

Pacemaker implantation is a surgical procedure to correct a slow heartbeat using a battery operated device called a pacemaker.

Pacemaker implantation is typically performed on patients with a condition known as brachycardia – when the heart beats at a level below normal starving the heart of the blood and oxygen it needs to perform optimally. The pacemaker is used to regulate the heart beat using electrical impulses transmitted via wires and leads that are attached either inside the heart (endocardial implantation) or outside the heart (epicardial implantation).
