Holter Monitoring

Holter monitoring makes use of a portable device known as a Holter monitor to continuously monitor electrical activity of the body.

The person normally carries the Holter monitoring device in a pocket or wears it in a pouch hung around the neck and the most common use is for continuous monitoring of electrical activity of the heart (electrocardiography). The patient will be attached to the monitor for 24 hours or more whilst keeping a diary of their activities, so that the cardiologist is able to compare the readings taken from the device to the patient's physical activity to check for any abnormal heartbeats.

Cardiology doctors may suggest Holter monitoring to record your heart's activity under normal activity or for after heart attack. It is also used to monitor the effects of a new heart medicine or diagnose heart rhythm problems.

This page lists cardiology doctors who perform Holter monitoring.
