Dental implants are devices usually made of titanium that are fixed into the bone of the jaw and used to support crowns, dental bridges and dentures. Dental implants can be thought of as replacement tooth roots and are basically titanium screws fixed into the bone.
Once inserted the bone of the jaw is allowed to adhere to the titanium implant for a period of time before the crown or bridge is attached.
Dental implants surgery is performed by dentists, but the level of training varies from country to country. The American Dental Association does not require specialization to practice dental implants, but in the UK dentists must undergo further study and certification before being allowed to practice dental implant surgery.
This page helps you find dentists who perform dental implants surgery.
