Coronary Angiogram (CAG)

Coronary angiogram or coronary angiography is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate blood vessels and chambers of the heart.

An angiogram is typically performed on patients with angina (constricted blood vessels) or patients undergoing angioplasty, a minimally invasive procedure to unclog arteries leading to the heart.

The procedure involves inserting a catheter (thin plastic tube) through the arm or groin into the blood vessels that lead to the heart. A special dye or contrast medium is injected into the catheter and x-rays are taken to determine if there are any blockages in the arteries or leakages in the heart valves.

This procedure is performed by a cardiologist or interventional radiologist.
