Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery

Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery is a complex open heart surgery to repair a diseased heart valve with a mechanical or biological replacement valve.

Aortic replacement valve surgery is used to treat two primary conditions. The first is called aortic stenosis, a condition where blood flow to the heart is constricted by a narrowing heart valve. The second is called aortic regurgitation, a condition where blood leaks back into the heart.

Aortic valve replacement surgery replaces damaged valves using an artificial device made out of high tech materials, human tissue, animal tissue or the patient’s own valve (Ross procedure).

This procedure is performed by a cardiac surgeon.
